Planning Our Charlotte Mason Homeschool for 2025
Ambleside Online Tailored to a South African, Afrikaans Family
Happy New Year, friends! As we welcome 2025, I’m thrilled to share how I’m planning our homeschool year. Adapting the Charlotte Mason method to our unique South African context has been a rewarding challenge, one I’ve navigated with a blend of creativity and reliance on trusted resources.
If you’re curious about how to customise a classical education for your family, especially if you’re homeschooling in South Africa, this post is for you. 💛
How We’re Planning 2025
Our homeschool approach begins with the timeless framework of Ambleside Online, a curriculum rich in classical content. But as an Afrikaans-speaking family, I’ve made thoughtful substitutions to ensure our learning remains culturally relevant while staying true to Charlotte Mason’s principles.
Here are the steps I’ve taken to craft our plan for the year:
Blending Curricula: While Ambleside Online forms the backbone of our curriculum, I also draw from other resources to enrich our experience.
Tailoring for Culture: I’ve leaned heavily on South African-specific substitutions to create lessons that resonate with our family’s identity.
Staying Aligned with CM Principles: The heart of this method is nurturing the whole child, and I’ve developed a planning system to ensure our days reflect that priority.
